Hiraeth

You’d like to leave those words unspoken,

so that the pages, blank, can stay

like honest silences embracing  a broken will

for yesterday to merge with days far back into remembrance,

where you can still see clearly through the wall of moments falling,

not in its presence, but in its return to evenings shortened,

spent pondering the evanescent scent of trees in bloom,

not to remember, and neither to forget,

but just to hover in between the now and then,

so piously embracing the forgiveness

of hoping for a new day,

to descend through the hiraeth that has set you free

to watch the yielding sun

and those ascending stars on the horizon,

alone, yet sharing in the distance.

(inspired by the sounds of ‘Hiraeth’, by Elijah Siegler)
