The judge

And you will stay a moment longer.

For sadness will withdraw before you do,

from tangled hopes that all will end as shadows,

cast down upon life lived under what’s true,

as you have seen it ravel into mould traps

of verses lyricised or sung, not pleas for justice

that will fade with heartbeats missed amid the crowd gasps,

before the one who failed to laugh in malice,

at the torn, strewn paper on the pathworn ground,

which no one cared to pick for value, not the worth,

of words meant to discern this mystery unbound

that vanishes away with raindrops off this jaded oath.

(inspired by the sounds of ‘Jaded’, by Wane of Summer)
