and thus life drifts, like circles, over depthless water,
widened by raindrops fallen from those storm-worn clouds,
that in their broken freedom set out anew to conquer
not morphless shapes, nor thunder-shattered sounds,
but an expanse of light and stillness only known there above
to an existence almost too persistent in its sky-bound presence,
like thoughts caught between the boundless and confined, which strove
yet remained seized along the edges of a creeping silence
that your mind drifted over as a lone dragonfly above the water,
in its querying ascents between the widening surface
and the lowering sky that closed in surrender round its flutter,
smoothing the rising tide of the once-seized resurgence
into the night.
